The women’s marches around the world were absolutely incredible, but we have to keep up that momentum. So, for my own humble first offering: the Hope in the Dark candle (inspired by Rebecca Solnit). Because, as Solnit writes in her must-read book of the same name, “Power comes from the shadows and the margins . . . our hope is in the dark around the edges, not the limelight of centre stage. Our hope and often our power.”
So I’m offering 250ml hand-poured eco-soy candles for sale for $15, with ALL money (after the cost of materials) to be donated to the ACLU & Planned Parenthood. Candle scent is lemon-aid (with a nod to Queen Bey) and burns for 30 to 35 hours.
And because we can’t just shop our way to a better world, by the time your candle burns down, I challenge you to come up with your own way to raise money, awareness or mobilize action to make the world a safe and just place for all humans. In dark times, we need to be the light.
Contains: eco-soy wax, lemon blossom phthalate-free fragrance oil.
Jars can be washed and reused once the candle has burned down completely. For best results, let the wax melt straight across, and keep your burn time to under a couple of hours at a time.
